Tour of Mount Dome offered

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A driving tour around Mount Dome in Siskiyou County will be offered Saturday, June 17, by the Klamath County Museum. The tour will include several miles over primitive roads, and is not recommended for passenger cars. High-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles are advised. Space on the tour is limited.

The tour through Modoc Indigenous homelands is being presented in partnership with the Lava Beds National Monument and Modoc tribal members. The tour, which will not actually enter the Lava Beds, is free, but registration is required.

Territory of the Hot Creek band of Modocs will be the first area visited on the tour. Stops will highlight locations where tribal members were held during the Modoc War, and where the Army prepared its advance on the Lava Beds.

Other highlights will include a visit to Laird’s Camp, Golddigger Pass and the old Lava Beds highway.
