KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - On Friday, new art will be installed on Main Street. The 4 pieces of artwork that will be installed were created by local artists and the Klamath Falls Senior Center.

This art is a part of The Alleyway Activation Project funded by the 2022 AARP Community Challenge grant and facilitated by Healthy Klamath in partnership with Atone Construction, and the Klamath Falls Downtown Association.

An art piece created by seniors at Klamath Falls Senior Center is a mosaic inspired by a picture captured by KFDA Board Member Kendall Bell at Lake of the Woods. This picture illustrates the period between spring and winter, as the snow is still on Mount McLaughlin but the desire to be outside on a kayak outweighs the cold air.

This piece was collaboratively done by a number of artists who each took on one tile at a time and was assembled and finished by Bell.

By working with the Senior Center, Healthy Klamath and the KFDA were able to engage with the community’s older adult population which has been one of their priorities. The other three pieces being installed were created by local artists that were provided a materials budget and stipend.

Artists, Cathy Nevala produced a beautiful painting featuring a stream, with intriguing color and distinct lines. Ann Davenport, composed an abstract piece that stands out with a bold yellow and 3D attributions. Carrie Wilcoxs’ art exhibits the different assets that Klamath County has including Crater Lake, the avian population, and more.

Each piece is completely individual and reflects the artist's perspective in a different way.

This project was a labor of love from the artists, Bell, S&S Manufacturing, who made the frames, Atone Construction, and Healthy Klamath. Without passionate partners, this project would not have been possible.

An Installation celebration is planned for Friday, September 30, at 9:00 AM at 1012 Main Street. Light refreshments will be provided.
