KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Yesterday, hundreds came out to the first Klamath Falls Farmers Market of the season. Shoppers were greeted with fresh locally-grown produce, hand-made goodies, tasty ready-to-eat treats, and the sounds of live music dancing in the air.

“It’s been a fairly mild spring with a decent amount of moisture for farmers,” said Charlie Wycoff general manager of the Klamath Falls Farmers Market. “We have a few extra farmers over last year, so it’s looking really good.”

The weekly Saturday market will feature 45-55 vendors on a week-to-week basis throughout the season.

“Of our vendors, twenty or so each week, are agriculturally related with fresh fruits and veggies, honey, eggs, beef, and chicken,” said Wycoff. “We have several ready-to-eat food vendors this year also with some really interesting cuisine. This year we have a really nice lineup of artisans and crafts. Everything from stained glass to pottery and candles. We even have live music weekly this season too. We have an interesting mix.”

Continuing this year is the popular program of Double Up Food Bucks. Where SNAP recipients can get up to $80 per month in free locally-grown groceries.

“We participate in a program called Double Up Food Bucks. Folks that are on SNAP, and use their EBT Oregon Trail card at the market can get wooden tokens to spend at any of the agricultural food booths,” said Wycoff. “This can be used on fruits & veggies, meat, etc. just like they would use their EBT card at the grocery store.”

“When they do that, we match up to the first $20 each Saturday,” exclaimed Wycoff. “They get a free $20 in groceries each week that’s eighty bucks a month if you can save twenty dollars for the later weeks in the month. That is a lot of groceries for families and we are really proud of that.”

The 2023 Klamath Falls Farmers Market operates Saturdays 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM from May 27 through October 28. The market is located on 9th Street between Main Street and Klamath Avenue in Klamath Falls, Ore.
