BONANZA, Ore. - The little community of Bonanza had much to offer this last weekend for those willing to make the short commute. The 20th annual Bonanza Extravaganza had ample activities that could gain the interest of any participant.

The aroma of homemade chili fluttered through the park. Shouts of joy and laughter could be heard from children. The ground shook from the live music. Groups of friends and families could be seen socializing and exploring the event.

According to event coordinator Cheri Steward, the event included 50+ admittances into the morning’s parade, 70+ entries in the car show, and nearly 60 vendors in the Big Springs Park.  An astonishing array of merchandise was available, including homemade necklaces, freeze-dried candy, unique and rare rocks, and custom-made bbq sauces.

The Cascade Civil War Society also made a booming presence at the event. An entire pavilion was dedicated to their extensive civil war collection. Their showcase item was a reproduction 3-inch ordnance rifle, which they periodically fired in an astonishing display.

The assortment of activities brought an estimated 5,000 guests to the small town with a population of 415.

Mayor Betty Tyree said of her community, “We’re known as the little town that does big things.”

Big things would be an understatement for their accomplishments. The entire event is done with donations, grants, and volunteers. None of the expenses come from taxpayer dollars.

The next Extravaganza will be next year on the last weekend of July. It will be an event that won’t want to be missed!
