Bus tour to feature Modoc War sites
A small marker designates the location of a historical site connected to the Modoc Indian War of 1872-73. The site will be visited during a bus tour being offered on April 1.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - A bus tour to historic sites associated with the Modoc Indian War of 1872-73 will be offered Saturday, April 1. The all-day tour will begin and end in Klamath Falls, with stops at several sites where incidents occurred before, during and after the war.
Seats on the bus tour cost $40 per person, and must be paid in advance. The cost includes lunch.
The tour, co-sponsored by the Klamath County Historical Society, the Malin Historical Society, and the Lava Beds National Monument, will include a stop at the battle site near Merrill that is usually regarded as the beginning of the conflict between the U.S. Army and a small group of Modoc Indians led by Captain Jack.
The tour will follow the path taken by Modoc warrior Hooker Jim after the opening battle as Modocs killed several settlers on ranches.
Other sites with include a historic marker in the Malin City Park, and Bloody Point on the Applegate Trail route.
A stop in the Lava Beds National Monument will focus on the Army’s approach to the Modocs’ stronghold, with a brief stop at Captain Jack’s Stronghold.
